1: IX Equilibrium by Emperor
From elementary school until about the end of my first year in high school I listened to metal nearly exclusively. I’m not sure how a middle schooler in Naperville becomes aware of black metal, but somehow I did. Apparently even then I had good taste it seems, as the first band I got into was Emperor, probably the best black metal band, and certainly one of the most influential. My interest in black metal, and most types of metal, has declined over the years. From time to time I can still listen to Emperor and enjoy it. Now if you’ve never heard black metal before, then this probably won’t be enjoyable at all. Appreciating black metal is a bit more difficult as most people simply will write off anything that sounds abrasive. So try not to do that. Not that I am expecting any of you to become black metal fans either.
