River Man
4: Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
I know I already posted a Nick Drake song earlier, but this album definitely belongs on this list for me. I remember the day quite well: I somehow read about Nick Drake online and on a whim went out and bought Fives Leaves Left and Pink Moon. I listened to Five Leaves Left in particular for hours after buying it. Although I associate Nick Drake with a particular type of weather/season, Five Leaves Left to me is connected to a very specific time, August of 2004. That’s when I bought it, and even now when I listen to this record I just picture myself sitting there in August next to an open window, and I feel like it’s 2004 again. Sometimes I consider it a good thing to have it associated so strongly, but in some cases it makes it almost difficult to listen to without becoming entirely nostalgia-filled.
